Assistant Attorney General - Appellate Attorney The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney to represent the State of West Virginia in criminal and habeas matters before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and in the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia. Consumer Protection Paralegal The Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division of the Office of the WV Attorney General seeks a paralegal to assist with the resolution and investigation of consumer complaints and businesses. Experience with litigation is preferred. The paralegal will perform legal research and drafting; analysis of case fact situations for legal issues, assist attorneys with identification and development of legal strategy. The position encompasses daily use of the office database, Lawbase, to assist with tracking attorneys’ workloads. The paralegal has to organize and save legal documents in the document management system and utilize Microsoft Access and Excel to create databases for major cases. The paralegal will perform document review for inhouse and multistate enforcements; assist attorneys by working with consumers and other state agencies in preparation for legal filings, including exhibits and affidavits, and assist at hearings, mediations, and trial from coordinating witnesses and documents to providing testimony of my review of documents. The paralegal is responsible for obtaining abstracts of judgment and assessing collection options for judgment when needed. Preneed Administrator Preneed funeral contracts are pre-planned and pre-paid funeral arrangements and are regulated by the Preneed Contract Division. The Office of the WV Attorney General seeks a highly organized, reliable administrative assistant for its Preneed Contract Division.
Candidates must be professional, punctual, highly dependable, resourceful, and have a positive attitude. Position requires the ability to answer calls from preneed contract holders, funeral homes and cemeteries regarding Preneed Contract registration, as well as rotating coverage of multiple phone lines for the Consumer Division.
Daily responsibilities include receipt, entry and transmittal of contract registration fees, recording of contracts and Reports of Death.
Monthly responsibilities include receipt and processing of applications for facility licenses and sales licenses, and participation in monthly meetings.
Yearly duties include sending reminders for yearly license renewals.
Every two years, duties include receipt and review of biennial reports of existing contracts at facilities. Skills and knowledge needed for the position include handling mail/faxes/deliveries and responding to emails. Ideal candidates shall possess prior administrative office experience including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and data entry. Assistant Attorney General / Arts & Education Division: The Office of the West Virginia Attorney General is seeking a full-time attorney to join its Arts & Education Division to represent various state agencies as required. Senior Assistant Attorney General - Consumer
ProtectionThe West Virginia Attorney General’s Office seeks a senior management attorney for its Consumer Protection & Antitrust Division. This Division protects West Virginia consumers through enforcement of the WVCCPA, the WV Antitrust Act, and other related laws. Attorneys work with consumers and companies to resolve complaints, conduct investigations of business practices, and file civil suits on behalf of the State for violations of consumer protection or antitrust laws. The office performs a wide range of work, including issues with local and national impact. Attorneys manage their own caseload but will also work collaboratively within the office and on multistate investigations or litigations. The Division has offices in Charleston and Martinsburg.
Requirements for this position include strong written and oral communication skills, electronic discovery knowledge and negotiation experience. Consumer protection and/or antitrust background is a plus, but the office is also interested in candidates with general litigation or prosecutorial background or with other experience that may be relevant to the Consumer and Antitrust areas, including business, technology, healthcare, construction, privacy, and non-profit work. Candidates should have a commitment to public service.
Candidates must have an active WV license or be eligible for admission and at least eight (8) years of senior management experience, specifically managing attorneys and staff as well as some day-to-day operations in the office. Attorney:The West Virginia Attorney General’s Office seeks an attorney to join the Tax & Revenue, Legislative Claims Commission and Transportation Division. Ideal candidates will have at least three (4) years’ experience in bankruptcy law, preferably on the creditor side.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Provide expert legal counsel and representation to state agency clients seeking to collect judgments, tax liabilities, and other claims from entities that have entered bankruptcy.
- Assist state agency clients in understanding their rights and obligations in bankruptcy proceedings.
- Prepare and file necessary legal documents to preserve priority of state agency claims and liens.
- Represent state agency clients in bankruptcy hearings, negotiations, and court proceedings.
- Communicate effectively with state agency clients, debtors’ counsels, trustees, and other parties involved in bankruptcy cases.
- Stay abreast of changes and developments in bankruptcy law and procedure.
