Meet Attorney General JB McCuskey
The Honorable John “JB" McCuskey is West Virginia's 35th Attorney General. McCuskey has devoted his life to public service.
As Attorney General, he is the state’s chief legal officer and is committed to defending the laws of the state and protecting consumers.
Attorney General McCuskey is leading the charge to protect America's energy interests to ensure consumers have reliable and affordable energy by defending the state’s energy interests from regulatory overreach by federal agencies and economic warfare by other states seeking to impose their climate policies on energy-producing communities. Most recently, he led a coalition of Attorneys General and the private sector, against New York’s illegal Climate Change Superfund Act, and won. The money grab would have cost energy producers up to $75 billion for prior – legal – energy production. The victory sends a strong warning to other states who are preparing to impose similar laws. His office also leads on a myriad of other energy issues, from pipelines to emission regulations.
Additionally, the Attorney General is focused on protecting children from online dangers. West Virginia recently secured historic settlements from Meta and Roblox. In addition to the settlement dollars – which total more than $125 million to the Mountain State -- those companies have agreed to make significant changes to ensure kids are safe while using their platforms. He also has active litigation against other big tech companies who are putting profits before the safety of our children.
McCuskey earned a degree in Political Communication from The George Washington University. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the West Virginia University College of Law. McCuskey also worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon in the offices of the Army and Department of Defense General Counsels. He also served at the West Virginia State Auditor and as a member of the House of Delegates.
The Attorney General's most important role is that of husband to his wife Wendy and dad to his two young daughters who keep him busy on the soccer fields.
