Today, West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey, and a coalition of attorneys general, sent a letter to Senator Chuck Schumer urging swift action to prevent millions of Americans from losing access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits if the government shutdown continues past Halloween.
The attorneys general from 18 states are urging Congress to pass a clean continuing resolution to keep essential services funded. Millions of working parents, senior citizens and people with disabilities will be left wondering how to put food on the table so long as Democrats refuse to vote for a clean resolution.
“It is time for Democrats to step up to the plate and join Republicans to pass a clean continuing resolution to help those who need help most. The American people should not be pawns in this game that has gone on for far too long. The time to act is now,” Attorney General McCuskey said.
Attorneys General from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia also joined the letter led by Ohio.
