Our Approach to External Legal Services

The Office of the Attorney General maintains procedures and guidelines governing the engagement of outside counsel to represent the State and its agencies in legal proceedings. Our outside counsel policy establishes clear parameters for when external legal expertise may be necessary, ensuring all selections adhere to a competitive bidding process with appropriate oversight. All appointed outside counsel work under the direct supervision of the Office of the Attorney General, maintaining accountability while supplementing our in-house legal capabilities.

The following written determinations regarding the need to appoint outside counsel and/or requests for proposals for outside legal counsel services have been made pursuant to the Attorney General's Policy on Outside Counsel.
