Attorney General McCuskey supports efforts to increase use of coal to support our nation's growing energy needs
CHARLESTON — West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey is co-leading a coalition of 23 states in supporting the Trump Administration's efforts to re-ignite our nation's energy grid with coal. Attorney General McCuskey, joined by North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Wyoming Attorney General Bridget Hill, sent a letter on behalf of the coalition to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.
For years, our national energy grid has been under tremendous pressure because of liberal energy policy. The Biden administration continued this trend through the implementation of aggressive and shortsighted anti-fossil fuel policies that pushed energy supply down to the lowest level of coal production since 1960. President Trump's administration is now turning the tide. A revitalized coal industry is needed to meet our nation's growing energy demands—due to a growing population, an increased use of electrified vehicles, and energy needs for data-storage centers and crypto mining.
“We support the Trump Administration's efforts to undo irrational, liberal energy policy to bring all of our coal-fired power plants back on-line," Attorney General McCuskey said. “We cannot stand by and allow China to lead the AI revolution; we must be in control of our own future. To do that, we need a reliable energy source – domestic coal is that source."
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia joined the West Virginia-, North Dakota- and Wyoming-led letter.
